Thank you for visiting our website. At Palmerston Indoor Bowls Club in Fareham, Hampshire, we offer a friendly and welcoming environment where you can enjoy this wonderfully addictive sport. Whether you're completely new to bowls or an experienced player, young or old, there's something here for everyone.
If you're interested in giving it a try, you don't need to bring any equipment. We have a wide range of bowls and bowling shoes available for you to use, so you can experience the game without any upfront cost. We also provide specially adapted wheelchairs to ensure that those with mobility challenges can fully participate.
Bowls In A Nutshell
Bowls is a sport where players aim to roll specially designed balls called “woods” as close as possible to a smaller target ball called the “jack”. The game is played on a bowling “green”, which can be flat, known as flat green bowls, or have slopes and uneven terrain, known as crown green bowls.
Opportunities For All
There are excellent opportunities for bowlers of all abilities to participate in this friendly sport in a variety of formats here at Palmerston Indoor Bowls Club.
If you're new to bowls, our regular organised drives are a great place to start. Teams are drawn at random, so you’ll quickly get to know fellow members and make new friends in a relaxed, welcoming environment.
Many of our members also take part in weekly league matches, which run throughout the season. We host regular friendly games against other clubs - open to all skill levels - and for those who enjoy more competitive play, there are club and national competitions in both singles and team formats.
Our club captains also select sides to represent Palmerston Indoor Bowls Club in local leagues and regional or national tournaments. Prefer a more casual game? No problem - members can simply book a rink and play at their own pace. Whatever your style, there’s a format to suit you.
The main winter season runs from September through to March. Many bowlers move to their outdoor clubs in the summer, but we still have an enthusiastic core who continue to enjoy their game indoors.
Palmerston Indoor Bowls Club isn’t just about the game - it’s about community. We host a variety of social events throughout the year, including Race Nights, Themed Dinners, Cabaret Suppers, Quiz Nights, Christmas and New Year celebrations. Local charities are supported with special events - our President's charity this year is Two Saints. Our Function Room is available for hire by members for private occasions such as birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, retirements, and other celebrations.
Whatever your age or level of experience, new members are always welcome. We offer beginner instruction to help you get started, and we’ll do everything we can to make sure you enjoy your time on the green. But fair warning… bowls can be very addictive!
